Smile & The World Will Smile With You

Hello everyone

Last night I had a rare opportunity to have a look at some of my book reviews on Amazon – I don’t read them often but thought perhaps it was time I did as if there is something nasty I need to rectify it or find ways to improve on an area in future books.  I have received many favourable emails about the Colour Confidence Book but was surprised and delighted to find that in actual fact the book NEEDLE PAINTING EMBROIDERY:  FRESH IDEAS FOR BEGINNERS had the most wonderful reviews on both Amazon.com and also Amazon.uk.

I was so touched and sat with a lump in my throat reading review after review and wishing I could reply to the people who had posted them to say thank you.  Unfortunately I am not able to do that as the privacy of the reviewers is protected and rightly so, but if any of you are reading this THANK YOU!  You really have no idea how much it means and I am so glad that the book has helped even in some small way to overcome fears of needle painting and inspire you to progress with this technique.

Beginner Book

Today I had the task of supervising the removal van while it transported furniture from my house in SOmerset West to my daughter’s flat in Cape Town about 45 mins away.  My husband was going to take care of it but had to go away on business and as I have a terrible sense of direction and don’t really know my way around Cape Town I was nervously anticipating all sorts of things going wrong.  My Mum accompanied me and tried to read the map while I took us off on the wrong route occassionally but to my great relief the job was  completed and we found ourselves with some time to spare so decided to treat ourselves to a nice lunch at the V&A Waterfront.  I don’t get out of the office much so it really was very special – we sat at a table that looked directly onto Table Mountain and I could not help but feel a warm sense of gratitude for those Amazon reviews and the wonderful people I have met and communicated with since I started my career as an embroidery designer.  I really love my job!!  Whilst there I bought this postcard to share with you and give you a laugh, but also to remind us that no matter how difficult life can be if you smile the whole world will smile with you.

I have lots of ideas and look forward to sharing them with you in 2013, meanwhile, wherever you are in the world this comes from me in South Africa to you, wishing you all the very best for the Festive Season.  Trish

  9. I own a copy of Fresh Ideas for Beginners. I bought it at a time the dollar-rupee exchange rate was at an all time high. But I told myself I deserve to indulge and pamper myself. Its a beautiful book and showed it to my boss, who appreciates well brought out and produced books.
I have to remind myself I have more than enough aids and accessories and ideas to embroider. My challenge is making time for embroidery. As a working woman with housechores, a husband and 4 yr old, I sometimes sit with a project at 11 pm. Even if its for 12 mins. Spacing tiny long and short stitiches across a petal. And filling them neatly and precisely. I can’t tell you how satisfying that feels.

  11. That smile is priceless. The face may be less than beautiful in some people’s eyes but the smile makes it beautiful.

I confess to not being a reviewer or an owner of either of those books and the reason has nothing to do with the work or the style of work but everything to do with the subject matter. Now if you wrote a book for beginning needle-painters without the birds I’d be ‘in like Flynn’ as they say in this part of the planet. I am ornithophobic and just couldn’t concentrate on learning if confronted with those birds.

  12. Thank you for the smile this morning, Trish – you have no idea just how much that was needed today!
The fabulous reviews do not surprise me one bit – your books are inspiring, beautiful and most importantly broken down and presented in a way that makes your fabulous designs accessible and manageable for everybody. So every review is so well deserved!

  15. Your blog post made my morning. The smile on that postcard was beautiful! I am not surprised at the wonderful reviews you have received on your books. I agree with them, your books are excellent. You should be very proud of what you have accomplished and the wonderful artistic talent you were blessed with. Thank you for sharing, teaching, and spreading your art to the world through your books and Internet. God bless and Happy holidays to you and yours, Anne.

  16. Trish, I own both of your books and you deserve an extra WooHoo for them. I also have one of your coorespondence courses…old but still a work in progress. I am hoping I will finish in the next year. All the best to you and thanks for the smile. 🙂
