HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello everyone and a very Happy New Year to you all!

I hope 2013 brings everything you hope for and deserve and that you have enjoyed your Christmas holidays.  Some of you will be back at work by now and others still on holiday (lucky you) – I am re-opening tomorrow 3rd January and for those of you who have placed orders they will be processed asap.  I have had a wonderful break and ready to start the New Year with lots of creative ideas, but was not totally idle over the Christmas period I did manage to stitch up one new vintage miniature design, Victorian Children On Flowering Branch, shown below, and as soon as the printers have re-opened their doors the instructions etc will be sent in ready to make into a kit.  As you all know my website is still up and running but the shop has moved to Etsy – I made this decision based on the improved customer service and facilities that Etsy was able to offer and I am sure it will be a more convenient and happier shopping experience for you.  The shop has been renamed TRISHBURR EMBROIDERY which should make it easier for you to search for items in Etsy.

As you know I was sold out of the miniature bluebirds and pansies kit at the end of November, following Mary Corbet’s article but the good news is that they are now back in stock and available from the Etsy shop.  For those of you who placed backorders I have made a note and will be contacting you asap – just need a day or two to get my ducks in a row:)

Am sure you have all made your New Year’s resolution lists or perhaps you have given yourself one special task to complete this year and I am no exception.  Here is what I hope to achieve in 2013 and some of the plans that are afoot:

1.  New Products – following on the enthusiasm of the miniature embroideries which are based on Vintage designs I plan to expand the miniature collection and these will become available as kits and digital downloads as and when they are completed.  I will be posting more information on the miniatures, where the concept came from and telling you a bit about the re-surgance of miniature art and the Royal Society of Miniatures headed by Prince Charles in Britain in a later post.  The Colour Scheme booklet is due to be re-printed and will be available from the Etsy shop soonest, more on this later.

2.  Classes & Workshops – I will be attending the L’Aiguille En Fete in Paris from Feb 14th – 20th where I will be teaching two 2h30 workshops at the tradefair on Friday and Saturday.  For more details please see here.  I am very excited to have the opportunity to visit the trade fair and of course Paris (whats not to love?) but also see this as a stepping stone to make some of my works available in the French language.  I was fortunate to discover that I have a French translator and teacher living two houses away from me so we will be setting to work translating the instructions for the workshop kit in the next week or so.  Hopefully you will see more products translated into the French language in the not too distant future.

I am fortunate to have Paola Botti from Luxembourg as a translator for the Friday workshop but still require someone to help on the Saturday 16th.  If anyone is able to offer their services of English to French translator, please contact me I would be very grateful and in return can offer a free workshop and kit or alternatively a kit of your choice.

3.  Online classes – No details or dates at present but I do plan to make another online class available in the next few months – probably on miniature embroidery – any thoughts?

4.  Blog Posts – I plan to post a series of EMBROIDERY DESIGNS FROM START TO FINISH in the near future.  These will walk you through the process of choosing a design, drawing, layout, preparation, stitching and completion step by step.

Meantime wherever you are, be it snowing or sunny emerge gently into the new year and have a wonderful week (or weekend).  Trish

  1. Hi Trish,
I just register to your blog and discover that your are going to be at the Aiguille en fête. I am so happy to met you, I love your work. I am going to be there as well, I have a booth E 5.4 (www.anniepenin.com) (anniepenin.over-blog.com), I am haute couture embroiderer.
I know your beautiful work and I was so happy to have chance to follow one of your atelier. Unfortunately for me it is full for Friday and Saturday. Well, I would be luckier next year!. Anyway, I will come to see you at the AEF next month and get your last books. Thank you very much. Annie

  2. Hi Trish
Have seen the posting on Sjolander Embroidery pin board of your Blue and white Jacobean design but am unable to see it as a kit or design download. Will the design be available soon please?
Also I have recently been to the John James (needle manufacturer) shop website and ordered direct from the factory, the prices VERY reasonable.
    kind regards Jenny (UK)

  3. Trish, This is Trishia:) I love how you have altered the original digital scan into a piece of embroidered art. Tres belle! I’m also quite envious of your trip to Paris in February. Can I borrow one of your translators?!! Sharing this on my Facebook page. Thanks again.

  4. Would love to do the minature bluebirds project as an online class. I live in New Zealand so thought it unlikely that I would ever be able to do a class with you. I purchased your long and short stitich DVD last year and found it very useful. It cleared up some of the mysteries of long and short stitch. However, I would have liked the project disc to be a video of the process of stitiching a project from start to finish rather than a text format.

    1. Thanks for your feedback Katherine. The video process is lengthy and costly – I have to get a multimedia company to come to the house and film me stitching, then it has to be rendered and output to a DVD format etc – the DVD took almost a year to complete. So unfortunately it would be impossible to video the step by step process of each project. Maybe somewhere in the future they will develop equipment that will make this possible:) Trish

    2. Thank you for your reply. It is easy to under estimate the work the work invoved in these videos. I have just spotted your on line tutorials. How do I do one of these classes? The instructions in the sample look great.

  5. Hi talented Trish, hope you have a great 2013!
Looking for ward and hoping you plan to do a great book with patterns, etc of your miniature embroidery. That would be marvelous. I love your art! Carolyn

  6. Hi Trish
So good to have you back on line again and the new miniature is superb. Was very excited about the Blog post on the start to finish project and also another on line course. If you are going to Paris what about a trip nearer to the Isle of Man!!! Was so glad to hear you had a good break and that you have so many ideas for us for the coming year – bring it on! All the best for this year.

    1. Happy New Year to you El would love to pop into UK but the visa process is pricey and difficult for those of us with a South African passport so maybe another time:) Trish

  7. I’m looking forward to the posts on Designs Start to Finish.
I’m going to do my Thistle Thread stumpwork casket in mostly L&S stitch, btw. The piece will take years, and I can’t possibly go years without doing lots of needlepainting! I’m on brick and tent stitch atm, and they are fine, but they ain’t the same.

  8. Thank you for the very warm New Year wishes. It’s such a joy to see your blog update in my inbox. The new year sounds very exciting. Can’t wait to see it unfold.

  9. Hello Trish

I just finished reading your newsletter and saw your request for a translator for Saturday.

I registered for your class on Friday as soon as I saw you were going to teach at AEF, as I love your designs, especially the birds, and have bought some kits or PDF, and books. I did not want to miss an opportunity to meet you, attend a class and ask you to sign my (your!) books.

In addition, being fluent in English, I could act as translator on Saturday, I live near the Parc des Expositions in Paris and could easily come again on Saturday.

If you’re interested, let me know.

I’ve been living in Paris for over 30 years, used to work 1 block from the exhibition center, so if you want suggestions on what to see, etc let me know.

Which hotel will you be staying at ?

I look forward to hearing from you

    Best regards

    Dominique ROUBAULT

  10. Best wishes for this New Year, Trish.
And I would like to do an online class with you and may be the miniature Victorian children. They are so cute.

  11. Sorry I am not in Paris right now, or I would have loved to help out! If you need any written translation I would be glad to help. (Jackie in NY)

  12. I am aching to do an online class with you, and a miniature project would be great! Perhaps the bluebirds or your newest one with the little ones on the tree branch?
