Calling USA

Hello everyone

I cant believe the end of this week is here – I will post on stage 4 of designing a project next week!

I wonder if my readers from USA can help?  My daughter Tess is going over to Maine to work on a summer camp as a counsellor in May and then meeting up with my other daughter Stacey in New York in July for about a week.  They have been saving madly for this trip and are looking for reasonable accomodation in New York i.e. B&B, backpackers,  motel, or other.   They have been looking online but it is hard to tell what is decent and of course which areas are ok, so if anyone could put forward some recommendations I would be very grateful.

Thanks so much and wherever you are be it winter, spring or summer have a great weekend and happy stitching.  Trish

  1. Your style is unique in comparison to other folks I have read stuff
from. Many thanks for posting when you’ve got the opportunity, Guess I’ll just bookmark this
    web site.

  2. Your daughters are so beautiful.  They look beautiful inside and out.   Sorry I can’t help as I am on the west coast, but what a great idea you had and I am sure someone knowledgeable will contact you.   Just wanted to say “great job, mom”   Hugs, Christine, Redding California

  3. When my son was in Boston last year for a music festival, he found a room for rent through airbnb.com.

    1. bah, I spent a decent amount of time, finding a post where someone mentioned a great website for finding lodging and then came here to comment and its the FIRST COMMENT! But, I will back up what Celeste says, https://www.airbnb.com/ also has a guide to the NY area so she could look into the neighborhoods and such there, VRBO.com is also something she might find useful. I am sure she will LOVE Maine, but let me warn you, the mosquitoes there are gigantic. Given that you live in South Africa, perhaps they will seem minuscule, I have no idea. But they are huge. HUGE. Other than that, Maine is incredibly beautiful and she will love it! Stop at Moody’s Diner if she’s coming in that way, and get some peanut butter pie!

      1. Thanks Jen this is so helpful. Pity about the mosquitoes but I will warn Tess and make sure she takes lots of our good mozi spray from South Africa! Trish

  4. When I stayed in NYC (I also worked summer camp) I stayed at the youth hostel on Amsterdam Avenue (check out their website http://www.hinewyork.org . I found it was clean, cheap and easily accessible to all areas via subways etc. As a single 20 year old girl (at the time – ha ha), I found that I didn’t feel nervous in the area on my own at all, and if they’re together, I expect they’ll be just fine!

    1. this sounds perfect Becca thanks so much will check it out. You are the same age as Tessa and the same circumstances how great is that 🙂 Trish

  5. Look like lovely girls, hope they have a great time!

When I’m interested in any hotel or place like that, I check the reviews on a site like Trip Advisor. That way, we’ve been able to avoid really bad places and be certain that the hotel Sir will stay in in Bucharest in June is a good one.

    Hope that helps!

I wish they were comming south so they could stay at our house. I’m in Norh Carolina and my knowledge of NY accomodations is neglible. Sorry!!

  8. Hi Trish, about 18 months ago we stayed at a little hotel, Edison Hotel, just around the corner from Times Square. It was very nice and not expensive and central. Hope this helps.

  9. Trish:  I am sorry I can’t help as I live in Arizona.  But if your daughter ever decides to come to Arizona I would be very pleased to have her as a house guest.

I hope they have a wonderful time!

  10. Trish, please let me know where in New York your daughter will be and I will check with “AAA” American Automobile Association and try to get a recommendation for her and you.
