Silk Lovers

Hello everyone

Hope your week is going well and that you are enjoying the warmer weather overseas – we are currently experiencing cold, rainy weather perfect for cosying up in a chair with stitching!

This week I am excited to introduce to you a new Shades Of Whitework design – Gentle Heart.  The design is stitched using soft shades of pink and mint with white, ecru and taupe accents.  The design size is approx 11,5 x 11,5cm (4,5 X 4,5 inches).  It is stitched using DMC stranded cotton with a DMC floche in white.

The design is now available as a kit in the Etsy store.  The kit includes beautiful 1300 wt Irish cambric linen with pre-printed outline, a full step by step colour booklet and needles.  Threads not included but they are very easy to source in your country of origin.  If you need white floche it is available in the Etsy store.

The good news for all you lovers of silk floss, is that I have teamed up with Silk Mill in France to incorporate their silk threads into the Shades Of Whitework designs.  I have done intensive research into the various types of silk thread available and this one ticks all the boxes – in that it is colourfast, high quality, gorgeous, easy to use and has a fantastic array of 700 shades soon to be increased to 800 shades. Oh my goodness colour heaven!   I hope in the future to be able to offer thread packs of silk with the kits but for the present you will find a substitute list from DMC to Silk Mill so that you have the option of using either cotton or silk in the design.

The silks creates a lovely contrast in texture with the matt finish of the Floche.  Silk Mill threads can be purchased direct from their online shop in France.  They ship worldwide and offer a wonderful personable customer service.  Read all about it here.

I leave for the UK in 2 1/2 weeks time and whilst I am away the Etsy store will be closed for business till my return on 10th July.  My apologies for the inconvenience but when I return there are some new ideas in the pipeline which I will share with you and also I will be able to report back on my class at the Royal School Of Needlework which is exciting!

Meantime, wherever you are in the world, remember “Embroidery forever, housework whenever!”  Keep smiling and happy stitching!  Trish

  1. Hi Trish,

Gentle Heart is just beautiful. I think it’s going to be a must have piece.

I too have been in touch with silk mill recently, and ordered a sample pack to try. It really is a lovely thread, and the delivery was so quick.

I have been doing some satin stitch in silk, as I remember you telling me that satin stitch helps a lot with silk shading, and guess what, you were right yet again – I just love it.

Well Trish, nearly there, I do hope you enjoy your trip, it should be good.

I was thinking the other day, seeing that you have cold weather, same as me, why not move to the UK, after all, its not like you’d be missing sunshine is it. That way, you could call round for a cup of tea and teach me all you know. 😉

    Love
    Shelagh xx

  2. My dear Trish

Well time is marching on and you will soon be on your way here. Don’t get your hopes up about summer weather here as it is anything but at the moment – weird weather altogether lately and icy cold winds brrrr! I did hear from my pal in Pretoria that it is bitterly cold with you too.

Just wanted to know if you will be bringing any supplies with you – I was thinking about that new Belgian linen you wrote to us about and also the new whitework heart and silk threads to go with it? Payment could be done with Paypal or cash when you come over whichever would be best for you but you may have lots to bring already and weight is at a premium I know but I thought I would just ask anyway. So looking forward to seeing you.

    Luv

    1. Hello El yes I am bringing linen and will put in a few of the new heart kits, although they dont include threads – you will have to purchase the silks from Silk Mill. I have already sent over a selection of goodies by post ahead of time. – cash would be fine. See you very soon! Trish

    1. All the prices in the Etsy shop are in US$ there is no need to use an exchange rate. You can access the shop on the home page of this site. Your package will be sent by registered airmail and takes approx 2 weeks to arrive. If you need any help let me know. Trish

  4. Good morning Trish ~

The new Heart design is lovely. I just placed an order with The Silk Mill to give their silk a try; I am new to using silk.

Another design you previously featured was Mandala flower; will you be making these two available in digital for download? That works so much better for me, being in the USA and I have the Cotton Satin. I just need the pattern and instructions.

Thank you, have a wonderful time off.

    1. Thanks Sharon glad you like it. I thought the mandala flower was available as a digital download will check on that. The silk mill floss is lovely and very easy to use for beginners as it does not stick to your fingers like some of the silks. Have fun with it. Trish

  5. This design is absolutely stunning and has gone straight on the wishlist. I am so pleased to see that you have incorporated Silk Mill silks into your design as they are beautiful to work with and easy for me to get hold of. I could gaze at your finished works for hours, just beautiful!
