Hello Everyone
This week I would like to share with you the exciting news about my new store that will be coming very soon: Divine Digital Designs. It is the result of months of work, much thought and many sleepless nights filled with ideas that would not go away despite much counting of sheep!
We are going DIGITAL! As you know I already have an Etsy digital store but unfortunately the layout is a little limiting in that it only permits me to sell patterns and in time this will be phased out. In this new Shopify ecommerce store you will find everything located under one roof.
Digital patterns are a quick and easy way to gain access to a new pattern without having to wait for shipping. The idea came about as I considered a quicker way to get kits and supplies delivered to my overseas customers without them having to wait for the post – I looked into drop shipping and order fulfillment with international providers, but there was too much red tape involved and eventually the idea of providing a digital superstore which would not only provide patterns but the capacity to learn a new skill, emerged.
Before launching into the idea I sat down and made a “To Do List” , starting with my motives and following up with a list of how to put these into action. Here it is:
Motives
- To teach others to embroider from home.
- To provide tutorials that will cater for all skill levels.
- To provide a flow of new designs without physical stock limitations.
- Maintain a high standard of quality
- To make it accessible, simple, enjoyable and doable.
- To create beautiful designs that others want to stitch. Not just an embroidery pattern but also a lifestyle.
- To provide everything they need to stitch a project. Suggest alternatives for hard to find supplies.
- To provide a happy, personal shopping experience that they want to return to again.
- Provide value for money.
- Provide an easy checkout experience. Ensure that they know exactly how to download the file and what happens if they lose it or need to find it.
How to do this
- Provide digital patterns that they can print at home, via a printshop or view on their tablet/PC.
- Design patterns that are clear and easy to follow.
- Provide a good selection of designs – both traditional and contemporary. Cater for all levels, beginner to advanced.
- Provide written and video tutorials that cover every step of the process so there is no confusion. Have an explainer video on the process of how to purchase a digital download.
- Overcome shipping delays and expense by providing shop links where they can purchase materials in their own country.
- Create a simple, uncluttered shop layout that is easy to get around and also visually beautiful and pleasing to the eye. Easy navigation menus and good product photos.
- Offer as many payment options as possible and have a multi currency tool for global customers. Make sure the checkout is quick and painless – no forms to fill in.
So lets take a quick look at what you will find in the store and see if I have met all these criteria – If you have any other ideas about what you would like to see I would be happy to consider them:

- Express checkout option.
- More payment options for both Overseas and local customers
All this is available to you, without you ever having to leave the store. I like to think that we are moving from a stall in the marketplace to our own store with a private entrance – it is easy to access, has good parking and once you are inside you will find everything you need in a lovely clean, serene, space – with airconditioning of course! If I could add a coffe shop I would do that too 🙂 My daughter Stacey, who is a graphic designer in London, and I have been working together to make this dream come true, to create a perfect shopping experience where you can browse through the patterns or learn a new skill, without annoying pop ups and ads!
Of course this does not mean that you will not be able to purchase physical kits, materials etc through the Etsy store, its all still there and can be accessed from within the new store. I cant wait to open the doors and show you whats inside. Keep watching this space for the launch and meantime, have a wonderful week, keep smiling and happy stitching.

My home is ina very limited embroidery supply zone. Internet/email is my shopping mall so this is going to be a great help and joy for me. Your plan to make written instructions available is perfect since I have lost my hearing. I am thankful my eyes a still good. I too, can hardly wait to see your dream store come to life.

This will be a godsend for me because I am a snowbird. I have limited space since I live full time in a 5th wheel. Getting mail in a timely manner has been a obstacle.
But I do own all your awesome books. There the only ones that have a special place in my sewing cabinet

I want to try my hand at embroidery. I have a cross stitch piece that I will be starting soon and want to create the eyes using embroidery verse cross stitch. I think it will give a cool effect and easier to stitch than the cross stitching. The cross stitch will make it look to pixelated whereas the embroidery more smooth. At least I’m hoping. Any good sites or you tube videos you can suggest to learn the basics? I know the satin stitch already just from cross stitching.

If you are going to make many of your older designs available as digital pattern I can hardly wait. Long before I started buying your books I would look up your designs on the web images pages. That was when I was hooked. I still see some that I can’t find at the Etsy Store.

I am giddy with anticipation. I live in a rural area of Missouri in the states and physical stores around here consists of Wal-Mart. Not much in the way of selection. I greatly admire your work and have several of your books. Your store… along with videos and instruction…it just doesn’t get any better than that. Hi Trish Sounds like you have been working hard. Your patterns are small and can easily be printed on the home printer. Just a suggestion. Hi Joan! What does ‘5th wheel’ mean, please? I’m interested in RV living and I hear American full time tourers using that expression, but it’s not something we hear of here in the UK. Curious to know more…

Hopefully I can explain briefly There are basically three kinds of RV’s : Class A, 5th wheel and trailers.
Class A is like a bus. 5th wheel and trailers need a vehicle to tow them but have more interior space.
Our 5th wheel is 38 ft long with 3 slides. When we are parked it’s a lot like a little luxury apartment. We have a full size truck to pull us.
We are able to travel pretty much wherever we want (as long as we aren’t too long.) We’ve driven from Alaska to Bisbee Arizona. We’ve met incredible people from all over. I even have a stitching group in the park we are now in.

Thanks Joan! 🙂 I looked it up too and it has something to do with the tow mechanism. Looks like something we don’t have over here. European RVs are markedly smaller than North American ones. 🙂

Wish you lots of success with your new venture. Just a thought. One can buy printable fabric sheets which is the size of normal computer printing paper ( Size A4) With that you can do your own printing on your inkjet printer. Suppliers of these sheets are http://www.joann.com/sewingsewing-and-quilting-supplies/bonding-and-stabilizers/printable-fabrics/ http://electricquilt.com/online-shop/inkjet-fabric/ to name a few. Just surf the internet for more suppliers. I have used just these sheets quite a few times already and was very satisfied with the end result.
It might be an easy way to to do ones own printing after one has downloaded your patterns. The fabric is 100% cotton and 200 thread count. I suggest one should use a backing fabric to give the sheet more body.

That’s wonderful Elza I have been investigating having iron on transfers made but this would be a great idea to recommend to people who purchase PDF patterns and want to print out the outline and iron onto fabric. I will definitely investigate it thanks so much for the suggestion:)

That is what we embroiderers do don’t we? Helping one another. I have done a few projects already using these sheets and they are just perfect especially for fine needle painting. I should mention these sheets are woven and an excellent 200 count, 100% cotton. Love Elza xxx
Thanks for the info. I went to the Joann’s site – there were several, which one do you use. I would like to try it, altho I love stitching on the Cotton Satin that Trish sometimes uses.
Hi Threads in Bloom, I have tried two kinds from JoAnn. The one was a 10 sheet value pack and the other a 3 sheet pack, both manufactured by June Tailor. The 3 sheet pack is a slightly better quality. The Electric Quilt Company has a satin cotton range, but it is a bit more expensive. I’ve come across some amazing embroidery in places like Etsy and Pinintrest. Do do you of a way to easily translate the info??

Thanks for the offer Elizabeth but at present I am currently using the google translate widget which will offer translations in most languages. The translation is not perfect but it is very costly to have the whole site translated into individual languages so it will do for now. 🙂

I hope to rekease a range of designs at some point too, but the sheer amount of work needed to create the instructions is a little daunting, I confess!
Best of luck with it Elizabeth, your work is beautiful and you should share it. It is a lot of work initially but worth it in the end:) Also I saw your comment on YouTube about the studio video being slower? It was made by my 15 year old daughter in the Vlogger style which means it is edited to fit to the music. I did ask her to make it slower but got shot down!! I do plan to have a more leisurely one at some stage. Trish
Wonderful! I look forward to that too. I love to look around others’ creative spaces – esp. ones that are orderly, uncluttered and, oh, so thoroughly workable in as yours is! Lots of current social media stuff is a bit fast for old fuddy duddies like me!! (I guess 45 is positively ancient to a teenager!!!)
