Lets Go Green

Hope this finds you well and settling into the New Year!

ECO-FRIENDLY PACKAGING

One of my New year’s resolutions is to be more mindful and kinder to the environment, and this has involved a long hard look at my way of life.   Firstly, I need to remember to take my cloth bag to the supermarket instead of purchasing a plastic one and of course, try to recycle everything correctly when it goes into the garbage, but possibly one of the biggest considerations is the packaging of my products.

As you know I use only natural materials in my kits such as pure linen, cotton and silk/cotton thread, but I am a great user of cellophane bags and adhesive labels.  I love the clean, shiny look they give to my packaging but have now realized that they are not recyclable and have to go. The first few weeks of 2018 have been spent researching and discussing with my printer how best to substitute the plastic & labels with eco-friendly alternatives, and I am delighted to say that we have come up with a solution.

 

The shipping envelopes and product packs have been replaced with either recyclable paper or cardboard, sourced from sustainably managed forests.  which can all be recycled if properly disposed of.  Printing is now done directly on to the packaging doing away with the need for labels and any clear bags used in your package are made from plant materials that are biodegradable.  Here is a little video that explains the process of paper recycling.

It is a step by step process but over the next few weeks you will see the new eco-friendly packaging come into being.  The new packaging will in no way compromise the look of my original branding,  in contrast, I believe it will enhance it and of course result in less harm to our planet, so we can all feel good about it!

HOOP ART EMBROIDERY

2018 will see the start of a new section in the shop on Hoop Art Embroidery.  This will be a collection of fresh, contemporary embroidery projects, that can be framed in the hoop once completed, affording a more cost-effective alternative to framing and of course will take up less space (so allow us more stitching!)  The hoops can be arranged in a group or individually to decorate a wall or any space in your home and office as seen in this display of crochet doilies, courtesy of Style at Home.  They also make lovely gifts for a loved one.

AUDREY HEPBURN

The first in the collection is a piece that I have been coveting for some years as I was waiting for permission from the family to use her.  Audrey Hepburn is currently at the printers but will be available for sale as a kit and digital download in the embroidery shop and digital store shortly.  I was surprised and thrilled to receive an email from Audrey’s son Sean Hepburn Ferrer,  asking if he could commission a duplicate for his private collection!  Audrey is one of the most loved and remembered icons of our time, and this special project was a joy to stitch.

GREAT HORNED OWL
