Important updates & changes

Hello everyone

Hope this finds you well and happy?  This week I would like to update you on changes to the online shop, and my business, going forward.

The last 15 years has seen an exciting journey of growth and expansion in my field of hand embroidery.   It has been an ongoing learning experience as I navigated and taught myself the intricacies of the e-commerce world, social media, establishing a brand and keeping up to date with the ever changing technology of our times.   I have loved every minute of it and am very grateful for the opportunity to share this work, but there have been times  when the capacity to run the business and take care of family commitments on my own has proved overwhelming.  This year I took the leap and employed 3 virtual assistants in India who took over much of the admin and have been a great help, but there is still a massive amount to do.

It became clear that I needed to make a decision either to expand, find new premises and employ staff or downsize and continue to work from home.  As I approach 60  I have a yen to spread my wings and create embroidery pieces where I have the freedom to use whatever threads, colours and stitches I want – to stitch for the pure love of it,  without the limitations of providing instructions.   The opportunity has arisen to focus more on embroidery as art and book commissions  and although it has been a very difficult decision,  this is the path I have chosen to follow.

What does this mean for you the customer?

  • Patterns will no longer be available in kit form.  There are a few pattern kits available as long as stocks last, then they will be discontinued.
  • All past, present and future Patterns will now be available as instant PDF downloads.  There are approx 90 past and present PDF patterns available in store.
  • There is an optional iron on transfer, fabric and needles available for each PDF pattern you purchase, so ideally you can make up your own kit.
  • With each PDF pattern you will receive a copy of Embroidery Essentials and the Stitch Guide.
  • In a nutshell, you will be able to purchase a PDF pattern, transfer, fabric and needles.  The pattern can be downloaded instantly, the physical items will be shipped by courier (5 – 8 days).

Here are some of the changes in the online store.

  • Digital Shop:  The digital shop has closed.  All purchases can be made in the Embroidery Shop.
  • New layout:   offers a seamless shopping experience.  If you click on the main menu SHOP – you will see it contains content columns so you know exactly where you need to go for any particular item.

  • Tutorials & Lessons:  Tutorials, How To’s and Resources are provided for all levels of experience.

New Patterns & Books.

New patterns will continue to become available as and when time permits.  There are two new Whitework with colour patterns in the pipeline, the first of which will be available next week – I will of course post details of these on the Blog.  Work continues on the new book which will be available late next year.

Thank you

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your continued support and encouragement.  We have become friends and allies in our common interest, and love of embroidery.  You have seen me through the ups and downs, and I love and appreciate every one of you.  I know that you will understand the need to phase out certain aspects of the business so that I can have more time to follow my heart’s desire, and hopefully you will continue to follow my progress as I enter this new and exciting chapter of my career!

Till next time, wherever you are in the world, keep smiling and happy stitching!

Trish

  1. Dear Trish, regrettably, I only got to know you late in life (I am approaching 70!) via the Australian magazine “Inspirations. Since then I have become a firm addict of your creations and purchased a number of your books, after I managed to find most of your books through the library service here. I am a South African living in Melbourne, Australia. Wish I could meet you in real life….
Fly while you still can and enjoy the process of creating. Your embroideries are objects of art. May you be blessed in this new season!

    1. Thank you for the kind words Ella. I am sure you still have plenty of stitching years ahead, I know a lady Audrey Francini who was the master of crewel embroidery in the USA who is approaching 100 years old and still stitches every day!! Rest assured you will still see my work in Inspirations (if they will have me) and there will be lots of new patterns and books to keep you going. Trish

  2. Hi Trish, You have done a wonderful job over the years, which all sewers appreciate very much, enjoy your new ventures. Just one question, is there someone in Cape Town who does screen printing. All the very best to you and your family, who will be pleased to see more of you. Irene Knysna

    1. thanks Irene. There are plenty of screen printers in Cape Town, but none that I can recommend for embroidery outlines. It took me years to establish a relationship with my screen printer in Durban and get the print outlines just right, but he is now retiring so don’t want to start again:)

  3. All the best for your next stage in your embroidery life! So many of us look up to you, you have truly inspired so many embroiderers. All the best and I look forward to seeing what you create!

    1. Thanks so much Catherine, you have always been a very loyal supporter it is much appreciated. It will be interesting to see where it all leads:)

  4. Trish te agradezco infinitamente tus enseñanzas, tengo 2 de tus libros y nunca me canso de hojearlos, deseo que tengas mucha paz en tu vida, armonía y te envio muchas bendiciones desde mi pais: México

  5. Well good for you! As I approach retirement (I’ve already passed 60), I plan to spend more time working on your designs, so am glad to hear everything (and more) will still be available.

  6. I just received the Handbook and the DVDs and after reading the news of the coming changes, immediately went and ordered one of the Lesson in Needlepainting of the Little Bird. I have never done Needlepainting and am very excited about trying to learn this. Thank you for all of the magnificent work that you have shared with us through the years. God bless!

  7. Dear Trish. Thank you for all your inspiration that you have given me and so many others throughout the years. Thank you for the encouragement. I wish you all the best on the new road you have decided to travel. I am sure it will be so much fun and immensely satisfying.
    Lots of love.

  8. Wonderful Trish! Time to take care of yourself, especially your “Creative” self. I am so glad to know we will still be able to get transfer patterns, hardest part for me to do otherwise.
I wish you the very best.
    Love and hugs, Alice

    1. Dear Alice you have been such a great, supportive customer, thank you. There will be new patterns coming out and of course you will still be able to get your transfers so I hope to see a lot more of you😊

  9. Dear Trish, thank you for sharing your talent and wonderful inspiration over the years. It is time for you to concentrate on you and your family but it is obvious that you will continue to inspire and share with all of us, so we won’t be missing out on too much. Bless you for your generosity. ~ Liz B.

    1. Thanks so much for your kind words Valerie, I hope that your Sexy Seweres group continue to stitch and inspire each other and please keep me posted with your future endeavours. 12. Trish I can only wish you joy on your decision.
I am so happy for your decision to continue to include us in much of your patterns.
You must feel free for the first time in a long time. Enjoy your life and thanks for all you share with us.
Hugs and joy to you. Chris

  13. Fully understand your decision, there comes a time when you should be able to do what you really want to do. I am pleased I can still buy patterns and there will be the occasional new one to drool over. Good Luck and Happiness for the future

  14. Trish does this mean I can no longer order prints from you. Have a problem with fabric type to use.
I wish you the best. I have enjoyed so many of your projects and hope that creativity continues. Relax and enjoy this journey….Hugs, Karen

    1. Dear Karen, you have been such a loyal and supportive customer and I would dearly love to continue to provide you with printed fabric but unfortunately one of my biggest problems is that my screen printer has retired so cannot help you. However, all you need to do is order the fabric and iron on transfers for your workshops and you will have your printed fabric, easy😊 Enjoy BATB and look after my friend Di. xxx

  15. Trish I know this will have been a well thought through decision and I completely understand. Good luck in your new direction. But I am relieved that your inspiration and designs continue. Take care Mary
