Hello everyone
Hope your week is going well? This week I would like to share with you a bit about the Fairtrade organization and how it relates to our embroidery.
As you know in an effort to become more environmentally friendly this year I have moved over to sustainable packaging which means I no longer use plastic in my packaging. Those of you who have placed orders in the last 2 months will have noticed that it is all paper/cardboard packaging? The interesting thing is that the new shipping envelopes take up half the space of the previous bubble wrap envelopes and that the contents arrive in better condition. I am sure you will agree that we can’t change the world, but individually we can make a difference by becoming more environmentally aware, recycling and making little changes to our lifestyle, I would love to hear how you approach this in your own small (or big) way.
Embroidery makes our planet a more beautiful place – we decorate our homes, lives and others with the fruits of our labours and I am fortunate to be in the business of “Delivering Happiness”, by providing the means to do this – so I would like to pay it forward and deliver even more happiness!
After much thought I have decided to donate the proceeds of an embroidery pattern to the Fairtrade foundation. It is a global organization that supports small scale farmers in the developing world. The reason that I chose this particular organization is because I am passionate about pure, natural fibres like organic cotton and because I come from a farming background and they support both these issues. This short video on youtube will explain exactly what Fair trade is all about, how it relates to our embroidery and how we can make a difference.
The Lala land embroidery pattern was designed by artist and illustrator Clare Owen in the UK. Clare has bought a fresh new approach to our traditional embroidery by providing this vibrant, happy illustration in gorgeous colours and you will see lots more of her embroidery designs in the next few months. The pattern is suitable for All levels – I loved stitching it and know you will too 🙂 It is currently available as a PDF in the digital store and will shortly be available in the Embroidery Shop.
The full proceeds of this pattern will be donated on a monthly basis to the Fairtrade foundation. I will keep you posted with a monthly report on total donations, and know that your support will be GREATLY appreciated!
Till next time, wherever you are in the world, keep smiling and happy stitching!
Trish
