You are loved

Hello everyone

The end of the year is fast approaching and I have a few things to share with you before we close for the festive season:

You are loved

Alex Cook is a mural artist who creates murals and experiences to foster safe, healthy communities and as a tool for healing. We are surrounded by belittling messages of materialism, bullying and violence. Instead, imagine the words YOU ARE LOVED – the letters 10 feet tall, covering the side of a public school, car park, playground or park in your community.

These murals have helped countless people in so many different ways here are just a few extracts from the many testimonials:

“The YOU ARE LOVED mural sends a message to students everyday as they walk into the building– “You are loved!” Alex Cook will forever be remembered for painting 3 simple words on the walls that make a big difference every day.”  Angela Prince, Principal, Mumford High School, Detroit, MI

“the message is powerful for those who have been impacted by violence and abuse. It is a welcoming and warm reminder to all in the shelter of their significance and their own ability to create beauty and a positive message.” Susan Chorley, Director, Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministries, Roxbury, MA

The beautiful, positive affirmations displayed in the murals are a great benefit to students, parents and teachers who see them each day. Pamela Good, Executive Director, Beyond Basics, Detroit, MI

The victims of human trafficking who participated in painting the wall now consider it “their” wall and feel so much ownership and pride in its existence, making them feel visible and supported.  Barbara Walker, Program Director, Mary Eliza Mahoney House Shelter, Roxbury, MA

“I walk past your “You are Loved/Eres Amado” mural every time I go to the Village. It never fails to make me feel more hopeful about the world. ” Anne Gwin, neighborhood resident, Boston, MA

This is a collaboration between Alex and I to reproduce his art in embroidery. By stitching this project we hope to spread the message across continents. This was such an enjoyable project to stitch with it’s vibrant, cheerful colors and the pattern will be available soon, hopefully before the end of this year or early 2020, so you can stitch your own message of love for a friend, or family and make someone feel special. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to Alex’s foundation so that he can continue this good work, but if you would like to make your own donation you can do so here.

Original embroidery pieces

There are 3 new embroidery pieces available for sale in the shop. These will be the last this year and more will be added as and when available next year.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for all your support in 2019, I could not continue to do this work without you and your enthusiasm and patronage is greatly appreciated. Till next time, wherever you are in the world keep smiling, happy stitching and remember YOU ARE LOVED!
