  2. A few years ago I stitched the Gatsby portrait but left off the curl where her ear would be. My SIL had just completed treatments for breast cancer that included chemo therapy and the loss of her hair. She wore a lot of charming hats during that time and, without the curl, this made me think of her during that time. I added the words “She survived” and had it framed. She loved it and still “survives” six or seven years later.
