Luminous Landscapes

Hello everyone

I hope that you have enjoyed your summer holidays and are ready for some new embroidery projects? Our cold, rainy winter will be coming to an end shortly with the arrival of spring and I have taken advantage of these cold days to cozy up and do my favorite thing – stitch and come up with some new ideas. So here they are……..

Landscapes

Landscape embroidery is a wonderful way to portray scenic subjects. Needlepainting brings the scene alive, providing a singular luminous quality that only shaded embroidery can achieve. There are two new PDF landscape projects available in my online store: Mount Fuji and Autumn. There is a new pack of iron on transfers – Pack 10, for these two designs which will be available for 6 months as a courtesy to those who have previously purchased Transfer pack 4 landscapes. They have also been added to transfer pack 4, Landscapes.

You can also purchase a bundle of all six landscape designs here at a discount of 22%.

Mount Fuji

Fans of the previous landscapes will particularly love this design Mount Fuji landscape- it portrays a lakeside scene at sunset, with a traditional fishing boat and Mount Fuji in the background. There is a Japanese temple in the foreground, framed by gorgeous cherry blossoms which are so renowned in Japan. I really loved stitching this design as it comes alive with each stitch. This design is suitable for those who have some previous experience in Needlepainting.

Autumn Landscape

This autumn landscape portrays a lovely mountain scene depicting glorious shades of Autumn. It is suitable for All levels including beginner, and would also be helpful to those who have some previous experience and would like to brush up on their skills.

How To Stitch In Needlepainting

The Autumn landscape is the first in a new series of digital masterclasses. This “How To” series is in response to numerous requests for practical instruction on how to stitch different subjects in Needlepainting Embroidery. Flowers, Birds, Nature, Landscapes and Portraits in Needlepainting all require a slightly different approach to achieve a lifelike effect, and this is what we will cover in these masterclasses.

You will learn why certain colours are used and the importance of shading from light to dark to achieve more depth in your embroidery. Why we use certain stitches for different areas of a design, how we direct our stitches to follow a shape and lastly how outlines can be added afterwards to make your embroidery pop. Each masterclasses will prove an invaluable source of information to refer back to time and again.

You asked and I listened! But please understand that these masterclasses take time to prepare, and stitch, so they will be released one by one over the next few months as and when they are available.

Beatrix Potter

Earlier this year I mentioned that I was hoping to license the Beatrix Potter designs. Sadly I have tried every avenue, including my publishers who have an affiliation with Penguin House in UK, to obtain a license, but to no avail. They informed me that they only license the images to large, corporate and commercial concerns and that I do not qualify. Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm, but unfortunately I will not be able to produce these designs in embroidery.

There is no law to say that you cannot produce a one off for your own, personal use, so if any of you decide to give it a try, then I say go for it! You are more than welcome to use my picture as a guide, but I cannot give you the thread colours or any instructions. And please share with me a pic of your finished piece, I would love to see it.

Till next time, wherever you are in the world, keep smiling and happy stitching!

Trish

  2. Oh I’m so sorry that they denied you on the Beatrix Potters. They would, could, & may make beautiful embroideries. And maybe in the future I will it a go! Hope Spring brings you Joy.

  3. Hello Trish!
Just something that you may like to know. I make bobbin lace and two bobbin makers asked and received permission to reproduce Beatrix Potter images painted on bobbins . They applied to the original publishers Warnes.

    1. Thanks so much Patricia. Frederick Warne was such a gentleman and very accommodating with us crafters but unfortunately he has passed on and Penguin Random house now have ownership.
